Facts about Oats

The main ingredients used in making flapjacks are Oats. Here are some interesting facts about the oats that we use:

  • The company that we buy our oats from has been milling oats for 14 generations since 1675 making them the longest established miller of oats in the UK.
  • Oats have a high Vitamin B1 content, which is required by the body for carbohydrate metabolism.
  • On a per gram basis, oats contain a higher concentration of protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, thiamin, folacin and Vitamin E than many other unfortified whole grains, such as wheat, barley, corn or rice.
  • Oats contain an excellent balance of essential amino acids. Amino acids are proteins that help optimum functioning of the body.
  • Oats are naturally low in fat, when compared with many complex breakfast cereals.
  • Oats are also a very good source of selenium.
